When Christine came to visit me in Oregon, we decided to go snowshoeing. Crater Lake's rim drive, which is not plowed in winter, is one of the finest winter trips in the Cascades.
For the full experience, we dug a snow cave near Discovery point - just one mile from the trailhead. It was actively snowing most of the time, with only a few breaks in the clouds long enough to see the lake. The next day we hiked a mile or two farther along the rim before heading back.

Our snow cave, just short of Discovery Point. We were up until 11pm the prior night digging it out.

Inside the cave. Trekking poles aren't for support, they just keep the vent holes open.
